Maggie Barclay: BTSS Fitness Coordinator
Maggie has been working in the fitness field since 1984. She is an ACE certified personal trainer, AFAA certified fitness instructor, AFAA certified kickboxing Instructor, and certified Aqua Instructor. Along with that she is trained as a Yoga fit- Level 1 Instructor, Certified Drums Alive® Instructor, and licensed in most of the Zumba Fitness® programs. Her skills include training as a Longevity Wellness Specialist, Beamfit Programming, Senior Fitness Specialist, and the ASFA Senior Fitness Instructor training. She has a passion for organizing and participating in charity events, including 6 years with the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer and many local Zumbathons®. Lisa Chavis loves being a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. Her fitness certifications include AEA - AFP and NASM - CPT, CES among others from the fitness industry. Lisa was a graphic designer for 20 years and saw the people around her struggling with declining fitness and health. It was a call to action. She is passionate about enhancing the quality of lives of the people she encounters through fitness and health. Lisa is known for her energetic style of teaching and fun personality.
Annie is a certified Aqua Instructor and lifeguard. She currently teaches three aqua classes at BTSS. As the supervisor at the Cranbrook Natatorium, she teaches swim lessons and aqua aerobic classes along with her many other duties. She also is licensed to teach Zumba and Aqua Zumba! Join Annie for Aqua Zumba, H2O Bootcamp, and Aqua Power Aerobics. Her enthusiasm is contagious!
Owner/President of Fall Prevention Training Services, LLC, which specializes in providing fall prevention training. She is also a Master Trainer for the Six-Step Balance System by Dr. Betty Perkins Carpenter and travels throughout the U.S. training others to teach this fall prevention program. In addition, Sharon is an A.CE. Certified Personal Trainer and a former motivational speaker for Weight Watchers. She is the former host and producer of “Claye’s Kitchen Party”, a low-fat cooking show. She has been a speaker on topics relating to health and fitness at various senior centers and other locations as well as on local radio and television.
Dondra is certified through AFAA and has been teaching many forms of group exercise for 23 years. She has a major from Western Michigan University in Communications with a minor in Dance. She is a graduate of Irene's Myomassology Institute and has an Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. While she has many skills that she enjoys, group fitness is her favorite and she enjoys getting to know the participants and guarantees a challenging cardio workout and stronger core by the end of each session!
Lola is certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine as a Personal Trainer. She is the owner of Get Fit, LLC and specializes with one on one or small group exercise. When not teaching fitness and nutrition, she runs competitively, rides both road and mountain bikes, swims occasionally, and loves to keep moving! Her passion for good health and fitness is what guides her and she loves to share that passion with her clients.
Lori teaches the Aqua Fit & H2O Interval classes, along with the Healthy Back 101 class. She is a certified Aqua Instructor, AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor, AIFE Older Adult Fitness Certification, and certificates in YMCA Physical Fitness Leader, YMCA Strength Training, NDEITA Kickboxing, Fitball, and more! Her passion for wellness will have you coming back for more!
Han Hoong Wang
Han has more than 30 years teaching experience in Tai Chi and Wushu. She is certified by the Chinese Department of Education and has studied extensively in China and the U.S. under Grandmasters for the Yang and Chen families. She was honored to be selected as a disciple of Grandmaster Yan Zhen Duo, 4th generation of the Yang family. Kathy is an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor, an AFPAI Certified Aqua Instructor, a Certified Yoga Instructor, both land and water through White Crow Yoga, a “ Brains and Balance Over 60 “ Certified Instructor through Exercise Etc. and a DrumsAlive! Certified Instructor. She has been practicing Yoga for 20 years years and teaching for over 10 years. At BTSS Kathy currently teaches Water Aerobics, Fluid Moves and Aqua Yoga in the water, as well as Beginning Yoga and “Brains and Balance Over 60” in the studio. She has participated in many yoga retreats, worked with Stage III non-small cell Lung Cancer Survivors through a grant at Oakland University and taught Senior Couples Yoga classes in the area. She lectures on the current trends in brain fitness as well as the importance of Yoga as a tool for mindful relaxation and weight loss .Her concentrations and continuing interest in all areas of Senior Fitness are evident in each of her classes.
Karen spent several years as a CAM therapist for the St. John Providence Health System, and specializes in gentle and chair yoga for those who are either limited in mobility, reluctant to get onto a mat, or are recovering from an injury or illness. She is a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance and Yoga Ed. and is a member of Yoga Association of Greater Detroit. Karen is grateful to have the opportunity to share the practice offering her students the ability to open doors to a more gratifying life through yoga. Karen has been teaching fitness classes for over 31 years! She is a certified Aqua instructor, a certified AFAA group exercise instructor, is a member of Yoga Alliance and is a Registered Yoga Instructor (RYT), is certified as a Pilates instructor, is licensed to teach Zumba, is certified to teach TRX classes, step classes, strength classes and more! Improve your core, get stronger and find your balance in Pilates, Strength and Balance or run up a hill in Aqua Interval. These classes are interactive, fun and will get you fit!
Lauren has a degree in Exercise Science/business from Oakland Community College. She enjoys working with all types of populations including those with disease and disability. She specializes in strength training and core, but is also certified in Senior Fitness and Tai Chi for Arthritis. Lauren loves teaching exercise whether it's in a group setting or one on one. She has competed in the Michigan Novice Competition in the figure division. She loves helping her clientele to see great results while practicing proper form and building muscle/toning!
Ernie Thomas is the BTSS Pool Coordinator and head lifeguard. In addition to these key roles at BTSS Ernie is now certified as an aquatics instructor and teaches Water Walking, Beginner Swim lessons and our new Swim Fitness class, along with guarding open swim times. Ernie’s positive attitude, happy personality and enthusiasm for his job have inspired our senior swim participants to push harder to achieve their fitness goals.
Donna has been an Ace certified Group Fitness Professional since 2007. She teaches all formats of group fitness and is licensed in Zumba, and most recently, Bokwa. She also holds her RYT-200 Yoga Teaching certification. In addition to group fitness and personal training, she has been a dance instructor for 20+ years and now choreographs local musical productions. She is honored to be on the BTSS faculty as well as the owner of Studio 8 Fitness in Waterford. Please join Donna in her Chair Yoga and Barre Balance classes.
Stan Witkowski has been working as a fitness professional since 1996 and is certified for ACE Group Fitness, as a personal trainer, senior fitness specialist, and a massage therapist. Stan has also worked as an athletic director, corporate wellness specialist, and master trainer. Stan has taught aquatic, boot camp, kickboxing, step, and body works classes.
