Meet the BTSS Fitness Instructors

 

Maggie Barclay

Maggie has been working in the fitness field since 1984. She is an ACE certified personal trainer, AFAA certified fitness instructor and kickboxing Instructor.  Along with that she is trained as a Yoga fit- Level 1 Instructor, Drums Alive® Instructor, and licensed in most of the  Zumba Fitness® programs.   Her skills include training as a Longevity Wellness Specialist,  Beamfit Programming,  and the ASFA Senior Fitness Instructor training. She has a passion for organizing and participating in charity events, including 6 years with the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer and many local Zumbathons®.  Join Maggie for Strength & Balance, Drums Alive®, Zumba Gold®, or the Amazing Morning Stretch class.

 

Annie Chi

Annie is a certified lifeguard and currently teaches two aqua classes at BTSS. As the Supervisor at the Cranbrook Natatorium, she teaches swim lessons and aqua aerobic classes along with her many other duties. Join Annie for her H2O Bootcamp on Saturday mornings or her Tuesday/Thursday 6 p.m. Aqua Power Walk & Dance.  Her enthusiasm is contagious!

 

Lavon Cook

Lavon is a long time instructor with BTSS.  She has a degree in Exercise Science from Oakland Community College and many years of experience, including training for the PACE Exercise Program through the Arthritis Foundation.  Currently she teaches two aqua classes – Let’s Move and Healthy joints.  Along with the aqua classes she teaches a Pilates/Yoga class in our fitness studio.  With all of her years of experience, Lavon can help you reach your fitness goals! 

 

Carolyn Culbert

Carolyn is new to BTSS and is teaching our Line Dancing classes!  She comes with many years of experience teaching line dancing at the Milford Senior Center and local Community Education programs.  Her love of dancing shows in her ability to have fun while teaching and includes all levels of fitness!

 

Deirdre Denholm

Deirdre comes to BTSS highly qualified for her classes!  A member of the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit, 500 hours plus of yoga teacher training, and a certified teacher of yoga by the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre.  Along with her yoga expertise, she is also a certified ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and has many specialized training certificates, such as Fitness & Nutrition, Relaxation Therapist, & Kickboxing!  Join her for her Yoga, Pilates, & Meditation class on Thursday mornings!

 

Lori Harbour

Lori just recently joined the team here at BTSS.  She will be teaching the new H2O Interval class. 

She is an AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor, AIFE Older Adult Fitness Certification, and certificates in YMCA Physical Fitness Leader, YMCA Strength Training, NDEITA Kickboxing, Fitball, and more! Her passion for wellness will have you coming back for more!

 

Kathy Housey

Kathy has been practicing Yoga for over 17 years and teaching for over 6 years.  She has participated in many yoga retreats and offers a flowing gentle program with simple breathing techniques to help with daily living and stress relief.  Join Kathy for her Yoga with Props class in the fitness studio or pool! 

 

Karen Lutz

Karen is a member of the Yoga Alliance and the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit.  She studied abroad in India for her training in Hatha yoga and guided meditation.  She attends workshops on an ongoing basis and is a Registered Yoga Instructor with Yoga Ed.  Karen teaches our Chair Yoga class where she encourages everyone to work at their own individual levels, but gives them confidence to move forward in their yoga practice. Come participate using gentle moves with Karen and experience change in your daily living!

 

Stacey Peper

Stacey received her training as a Nia Instructor while living in Germany and has continued her education here in Michigan recently completing her Nia green belt.  Along with the Nia program, she has training in progressive muscle relaxation, and is certified in the new Ageless Grace program.  Join her in these fun mind body classes that will give you simple tools to be able to continue your activities of daily living!

 

Michelle Pozan

Michelle recently joined the team at BTSS with high skills & expertise!  Her certifications include  AFAA Group Fitness & Personal Training,  Flirty Girl Workouts, Bootcamp Instructor, Drums Alive®, Massage Therapy, and Nutrition & Health Coaching!  She is also also licensed for teaching  Zumba Fitness®! Join Michelle as she takes you to your individualized next level of fitness with our Boomer Bootcamp class!

 

Shelley Rubinstein

Shelley has been a long time instructor for BTSS and is adored by many participants in our fitness programs.  Her long list of skills include certified ACE Fitness Instructor, ACE Older Adult Specialty, ASFA Senior Fitness Instructor, Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program Leader, and all her years working with our Supervised Strength Training program.  You can see her smiling face most days at the fitness center.  Join Shelley in one of her many classes, including Easy Does It, On the Ball, & Senior Fit Aerobics! 

 

Jo Schirtzinger

Jo has been teaching fitness classes since 1994.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Parks Administration from CMU.  Join her for the Balance & Core class.

 

Han Hoong Wang

Han has more than 30 years teaching experience in Tai Chi and Wushu.  She is certified by the Chinese Department of Education and has studied extensively in China and the U.S. under Grandmasters for the Yang and Chen families.  She was honored to be selected as a disciple of Grandmaster Yan Zhen Duo, 4th generation of the Yang family.  Join Han in our Tai Chi program to enhance balance, strengthen body & mind, all while relieving stress and tension.

 

Cathie Winton

Cathie has been teaching water aerobics for over 8 years.  She is a member of the Aquatic Exercise Association.   Cathie enjoys teaching a gentle on the joints aqua class that may be beneficial to the person with health challenges.  Join Cathy in her Aqua Toning classes!
